As a result of series of meetings held during the annual Assemblies of the member states of the World Intellectual Property Organization in Geneva from October 3 to 11, 2016, EPO President Benoît Battistelli and Rospatent Director General Grigory Ivliev signed the Patent Prosecution Highway (PPH) pilot program.

This program will run for three years starting in the course of 2017 and will allow applicants whose claims have been determined to be patentable/allowable in either EPO or Russian patent office to have a corresponding application filed with another office processed in an accelerated manner.

At present Rospatent is already a member of the Global PPH program as well as has bilateral PPH agreements with Patent Offices of Japan, Korea, United States of America, Spain, Finland, Denmark, People’s Republic of China and Portugal. It is much hoped that such a viable cooperation shall further evolve, including more countries and jurisdictions.

Patentica monitors the new possibilities, and will keep its clients informed of all the advantageous ways to protect and enforce IP in Russia and CIS countries.
