The Eurasian Patent Convention provides an international patent protection system based on a single patent valid through all the Contracting States. A Eurasian patent can be granted following a uniform procedure so there is no need to file patent applications separately in each Contracting State.

The parties to the Eurasian Patent Convention are most of the ex-USSR states, namely: Azerbaijan, Armenia, Belarus, Kazakstan, Kyrgyzia, Moldova, Russia, Tajikistan, and Turkmenistan.

There is no need to make designations at filing. Instead, designations are made when the patent is granted by paying renewal fees in favour of desired countries. Examination of a PCT application in the Eurasian Patent Office shall be requested, and the examination fee paid at filing. For details, check the Eurasian Patent Convention.
